Zamfirescu Racoți & Partners Rewards Excellence in the Civil Procedure Competition “Viorel-Mihai Ciobanu”

ZRVP, in collaboration with the University of Bucharest, the Faculty of Law, rewarded, on the 24^th of April, 2019 the winners of the first edition of the civil procedure competition “Viorel-Mihai Ciobanu”. The event took place in Amphitheater no. 4 of the Faculty of Law, the University of Bucharest, with an audience of over 100 students of the 4^th year, in the presence of Professor Flavius Baias, Dean of the Faculty of Law, of lawyer Călin-Andrei Zamfirescu, founding partner of ZRVP, of Dr. Cosmin Vasile, ZRVP, Managing Partner of ZRVP and Professor Traian Briciu.

The winners of the competition are Angelica Alecu and Dragoș Petrescu, who were awarded the following prizes:

Angelica Alecu – The prize of excellence “Viorel Mihai Ciobanu” worth EUR 2,000 for the most original pleading.

Dragoș Petrescu – The prize of excellence “Viorel Mihai Ciobanu” worth EUR 1,000 for the correct and rigorous scientific analysis of the case.

The competition enjoyed wide participation among the students, ten of the most valuable participants in the competition qualifying at the final stage.

The initiative of the law firm, supported by the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest, represents a tribute to the personality, the work and the entire academic activity of the distinguished Professor Viorel-Mihai Ciobanu, former dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Bucharest, Judge at the Constitutional Court, President of the International Commercial Arbitration Court attached to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, honorary member of the Romanian Bar Association and coordinator of the drafting team of the New Code of Civil Procedure, and wishes to promote students’ interest in the field of civil procedural law.

The organizers have highlighted the high level of education of the participating students to whom they also transmitted the message from the wife of the honored late professor.

“I could not have imagined a better end of university than the one felt through the experience of this competition. I am glad that I have had the opportunity to take part in this project, which I hope will become a tradition. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity to meet Professor Viorel-Mihai Ciobanu except through the written works, but, on each occasion, I hear only words of praise to him, all in the superlative. I am convinced that all are well-founded. I feel proud that I have also succeeded, to a small extent, in paying tribute to him by thorough preparation for the competition.” Angelica Alecu stated.

“The competition has proven to be a complex experience. As it was conceived, it has the vocation to showcase both the abilities to formulate correctly and coherently theoretical written reasonings, as well as to support oral arguments starting from a case proposed by the organizers in the field of civil procedure. Zamfirescu Racoți Vasile & Partners’ initiative to organize this competition every year is more than welcomed and I do  hope it becomes a tradition. Last, but not least, it should not be forgotten that this competition also aims at honoring the memory of the late Professor Viorel-Mihai Ciobanu, a model including for the generations that have not had the privilege of studying civil procedure with him.”, Dragoș Petrescu added.
