Working From Home? Can Employers Pay the Utility Bills of Their Employees?

While most employees have tried to reduce living costs since the coronavirus pandemic started, spending in one area is surging: electricity, internet and phone bills for millions of people who are working from home.

Work from home and teleworking have been the hot topics of the day since the coronavirus pandemic started. Preferred by many companies during these times, remote work has many advantages for both employees and employers but comes with certain challenges like lack of productivity or increased utility costs.

The massive change has many companies evaluating what they can do to make the transition smoother for their workers.

One growing solution: a home-office fund, explained Catalin Micu in a recent interview for Wallstreet.ro. Some companies are paying for their remote employees’ desks, chairs and computers and are instituting monthly allowances to cover remote work costs, like WiFi, phone or electricity costs.
